A week without too much to write about, hence the short entry below.

scottish flag(Tom) Last week, I found myself in Glasgow for an ESRI (UK) seminar. Left Monday afternoon and returned Wednesday evening. Unfortunately, no time for siteseeing, but what little I did see of Glasgow seemed very nice. It's worth a further look when we (eventually) make our way up to Scotland.

This week the ESRI seminar takes me to Bristol, near Bath. Don't expect to do much siteseeing there either (if there is any to see in Bristol). A few weeks down the road the seminars are in London and Leeds (up north).

twickenham stadiumWe also went to a rugby game at Twickenham Stadium yesterday (Saturday) with some ESRI UK people and others - thanks to Pete W. for getting tickets/organizing. It was the finals for the league - Northampton Saints against London Irish. We took the train from Oxford to avoid traffic/parking problems, which you might expect when 60,000+ fans go to one place. The train ride was a bit long (like 1 hour 45 minutes), but we got there, hung out with some folks and sat in our seats for the 80 minute match. I thought it was great - a nonstop football game of sorts - no huddles, no timeouts, just play.rugby I wouldn't want to be a player (no pads, brutal tackles), but it was fun to watch. And thanks to Simon for buying me a referee radio - a small disposable radio that picks up the frequency of the referee's signal. Now if I could only understand what he was saying--a combination of low quality reception and not knowing what words to listen for. Anyway, it was fun having an inside connection to what was going on.

My (Toby's) week wasn't that exciting - how could it be with Tom gone 1/2 the week? I hate when he does that.

My car was the big story of the week - I had a 'slow puncture' in my right rear "tyre" on Thursday. Thanks to Treedy, our receptionist who noticed it, I was able to drive to the 'tyre' place and get it fixed before it got too flat to drive. £10 (a tenner) and 1/2 hour later it was good as new. I have to admit, I was surprised to see Sue flip by the t-i's in the yellow pages when looking for the garage's phone number for me. As if the vocabulary wasn't enough, we have to worry about spelling too!

On Friday morning I found myself parked in at our flat. Our neighbor had parked outside of her garage (the one next to ours) and I couln't get around her car. (If you remember, our garage is the last one before the fence.) I didn't know who's garage it was at the time so I couldn't go knock on anybody's door and spent a very frustrating 15 minutes waiting for someone to show up. In her defense, she was very apologetic and said she didn't think anyone was using the garage (Rich never did, so she hadn't seen anyone use it in 2 years) and she was trying to avoid more car vandalism. None-the-less, I was still hyped up when I got to work. I'm better now.

On Saturday morning Tom and I went to the gym! Yeah us.

And as for the rugby game - it was pretty cool. Especially when they started playing My Country Tis of Thee before the game! Somebody should have passed out the words though, the Brits were singing it all wrong. Plus the Saints' fans kept singing "When the Staints Come Marching In" throughout the game. Kinda fun. Wish I had gone to one of my cousin Adam's games when he was playing. Would have been good to have some of the rules down better.
